COURSE DESCRIPTION

Advanced Women's Ensemble (year-long course, prerequisite: audition)

AWE is open to 7th and 8th grade girls, and an audition is required for placement in the group.  AWE performs in our Winter, Spring and Pop concerts.  Additionally, AWE attends our Fall Choral Exchange, our District Vocal Festival in March, performs at Knott’s Berry Farm in May, and participates in an SCVA vocal festival in the spring.

Ladies in AWE continue to work on age-appropriate vocal technique, geared toward both choral singing and individual endeavors.  Basic music theory and musicianship skills are enhanced, with singers exploring more complicated concepts and special emphasis being placed on the ability to sight-sing.  Members of Awe sing challenging music from a wide variety of genres, cultures and time periods, often splitting into multiple parts in each section.  A cappella singing is emphasized, along with the ability to sing with only a few singers per part.
